Who is Vashon Island Community Church?
Vashon Island Community Church, or "VICC," is a Christian congregation located right in the center of Vashon Island. Our history dates back to 1927 when a gathering of Christian believers joined together to start an independent congregational church in the town of Dockton on Maury Island. As its name implied, Dockton Community Church derived its identity not so much from any particular denomination or tradition as from the community where it was planted. Generally speaking, the church's denominational affiliation depended on who was pastor at the time. The members' identity was built on their common faith as believers in Jesus Christ, and to this day we have never lost our primary identity as a community church. Our common bond is as believers in Jesus Christ and our common mission field is the community where we live, Vashon Island.
In November 1979 the church was brought into affiliation with the Assemblies of God by Pastor Gene Peretti. Ten years later, under the leadership of Pastor Frank Davis, the church moved to its present location and changed its name to Vashon Island Community Church. Our heritage is rooted in the experience of God through faith in Jesus Christ, through confidence in the Bible as God’s Word, and through the activity of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As a church, we have always defined ourselves by our call to be Christ’s witnesses on Vashon Island. We believe that the message of salvation and new life in Jesus is the most important message in the world, and we want our neighbors here and around the world to know it.
